Professor Tony Passos Receives His Fourth-Degree BJJ Black Belt

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is well known for its long journey and respected belt promotion system. Achieving the rank of black belt in BJJ is a tremendous milestone for any practitioner that takes on average a decade of dedication, hard work, and perseverance to earn.  

With that said, it's been an exciting season of celebrations here at Team Passos. Recently, our Lead Instructor and Founder of Team Passos Jiu Jitsu, Professor Tony Passos was promoted to the rank of fourth-degree black belt by none other than legendary competitor and Jiu Jitsu trailblazer, Professor André Galvâo. This is a remarkable accomplishment and elite rank in BJJ that speaks volumes to the dedication and passion Professor Tony has for the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. 

Professor Tony began training in 1998 and received his black belt in 2007 from Professor de La Riva. Since then, it has been a fun and wild ride for him, including opening Team Passos in 2008, traveling the world to compete and coach at the highest levels in BJJ, and meeting incredible people in the industry along the way.  

With over 20 years in the Jiu Jitsu scene, Professor Tony continues to study and train the art while giving back to the BJJ community in tremendous ways. 

Fun fact: Professor Tony was actually eligible to receive his fourth degree in 2021 but opted to wait until 2023 when he could receive it here in Sterling to share the moment and celebrate with the students at our academy.
